Kayaking

The Kayaking Sub-Committee meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 18:30 in the restaurant area. The sub-committee discusses anything relevant to the kayaking section, and it is an excellent opportunity to meet other paddlers and see which events are coming up in the next few months.

Volunteers run the section and we really welcome new ideas for events or how members think we could improve on our work.

In 2016 the section organized another world record breaking kayak to Zanzibar, kids’ kayaking events and lessons and adult kayaks to nearby islands.

We hold Kayaking Time Trials and Social Paddle every Tuesday, at 17:00. We meet at the rental area and paddle in the bay. This is an opportunity for members to hone thier kayaking skills, improve thier kayaking time and also to meet other paddlers. There are three circuits, including one for Stand Up Paddleboards (SUPs). Beginners to advanced kayakers are very welcome, and kayaks are available for rent. The section also holds ‘How to Paddle’ sessions from 16:30 for members to improve their stroke technique

Kayaking safety sessions (for beginners) are held on an ad hoc basis. Members can learn about ideas for keeping safe on the water, as well as how to keep others safe when kayaking. Occasionally training videos and social, informal paddles are also organized. Members should keep a watch for further advertising of these events.

In addition to the annual Zanzibar Challenge the section also holds a family fun day each year, kids treasure hunt on kayaks and orgainises Christmas kayak caroling around the yachts on the moorings.

Events cannot be organized without the help of our members and any member who has ideas for kayak events are warmly welcome to the monthly meeting or to contact the Kayak Secretary direct.
