Entertainment

Besides its numerous water sport activities, the Dar es Salaam Yacht Club offers a variety of entertainment off the water.

Two major events are held each year; the Annual Yacht Club Ball, usually in September or October, and the New Year’s Eve Dinner Party with its impressive fireworks display. Both are memorable experiences. Attendance to these events requires pre-booking with the DYC office, and a dress code usually applies. The DYC also offers a variety of activities for children and adults during the Christmas season and other holiday times.

Routine entertainment events include:

  • Weekly Friday evening music on the Quarterdeck with a DJ or live band,

  • Special Friday evening beach barbeques and live music,

  • Monthly Quiz Nights with a floating trophy for the winners,

  • Events featuring “how to” topics of interest, such as Knot Night for Sailors or Rigging Night for Fisherman

  • Occasional Karaoke Nights for members of all ages to display their singing skills, and

  • Special interest evenings, such as talks by visiting speakers on matters of interest to Club members.

Other highlights of the DYC calendar are the various section flagship events which are open to all members, and held annually throughout the year. These include the Fishermen’s Ball in January or February, the Laser 24 Hour Charity race in November, and events that attract international participation such as the Laser Open, TanzaCat, the Latham fishing competition and the Tanga Yacht Race.

The Entertainment section welcomes suggestions from the DYC membership. Should a member be interested in joining its sub-committee, write to entertainment@daryachtclub.com
